Last week, the Washington House of Representatives passed a ban on the sale of assault weapons. This vote marked the first time a proposal of this kind passed a chamber of the Washington Legislature.
And do you know who was on the forefront of this historic legislation? Democratic Attorney General Bob Ferguson. Since 2017, AG Ferguson has been pushing for a ban on the sale of assault weapons in Washington. Upon the bill’s passage, AG Ferguson said, “The House today put public safety above the interest of the gun lobby. The devastation of mass shootings extends far beyond the casualties and injuries. Mass shootings traumatize entire communities. We must stop selling these weapons of war in Washington.”
AG Ferguson was one of the leaders of this effort — and this achievement is a perfect example of why we need more Dem AGs — but we need your help to get there.
Curbing gun violence should be a top priority, and banning the sale of assault weapons is a strong place to start.
