John,
President Biden’s 2024 budget provides a roadmap for how America can create an economy that works for all of us. It’s in stark contrast to the Republican agenda of harsh cuts to critical programs combined with even more tax cuts for their millionaire and billionaire donors.
Biden proposes raising nearly $5 trillion in tax revenue over the next 10 years from the rich and corporations. His budget would invest $2.8 trillion to preserve and expand vital public services for working families while reducing the national debt by nearly $3 trillion. And, no one making less than $400,000 a year would pay any more in taxes.[1]
Take a look at our latest infographic below, then pitch in $5 to share this with the American people and help sell the Biden budget to voters across the country.
So far, other than threatening to default on obligations Congress has already approved―which could tank the U.S. economy―Republicans have refused to say what services they want to cut. They claim Social Security is off the table, but there are rumors from at least one Republican member of Congress that Social Security cuts are “in the discussion.”[2]
Even as congressional Republicans refuse to tell the American people what they want to cut, the right-wing Republican Study Committee, which makes up roughly two-thirds of the House Republican caucus, has come out with their plans to slash government services while protecting the tax cuts of their wealthy campaign contributors. They’re proposing:[3]
-
Large spending cuts to annual appropriations (programs such as housing, childcare, nutrition, and education)
-
Tying increases in the debt limit to unspecified service cuts
-
Tax cuts for the wealthy and corporations (doubling down on the 2017 Trump-GOP tax scam)
-
Expanding oil and gas drilling
-
Getting rid of regulatory protections: threatening health, consumers, workers, and the environment
-
Prioritizing paying down the debt (but keeping tax cuts for the wealthy and the bloated Pentagon budget―major drivers of the debt)
The best defense is a good offense! Pitch in today to fight for President Biden’s budget, which invests in working families, reduces our national debt, and makes the wealthy and corporations pay a fairer share.
