I wanted to take a moment to tell you about my recent trip to Albany this month, where I worked with Vote Mama alumna NY State Senator Samra Brouk to advocate for equitable Medicaid reimbursement for doulas across the state of New York!
 

A doula is a trained professional who provides continuous physical, emotional and informational support to their client before, during and after childbirth. Doulas who understand the physical, social, and emotional impacts of racism provide much-needed, individual care to moms of color who may otherwise go without that support.

Black New Yorkers are FIVE TIMES more likely to die due to pregnancy complications than their white counterparts. This expansion to healthcare access would be a game-changer for moms of color especially. In fact, birthing parents who use doulas are 2x less likely to experience a complication. Doulas save lives, and they deserve to be paid a living wage!

Your grassroots contribution not only funds candidates like Senator Brouk, it also funds this important legislative advocacy work and coordination happening in state assemblies and legislatures across the country. And I’m able to make trips like this to support elected Vote Mama alum because of your donations.
