Dear Members and Supporters,

Against a backdrop of over six hundred thousand workers striking today from nine trade unions and with major demonstrations and protests around the country, Jeremy Hunt casually announced the Tory’s latest budget for the rich - by the rich.

A closer look at Hunt’s Budget shows £28 billion in tax breaks for big companies, but public spending is set to fall as a proportion of GDP and pay will be below inflation, yet again. This does absolutely nothing for everyday people and shows the Tories are determined to ignore the ever growing resentment and increasing waves of coordinated strike action and protests.

We are told there is no money left, but big businesses got £Billions in handouts from Jeremy Hunt today.
On top of this, Public services will be cut further, public sector pay will not match inflation, again. The energy price support has been kicked away, so your bills will go up in April. But it's supposed to ok because big business got tens of billions in hand outs.
With Nuclear power rebranded as “environmentally sustainable” and more attacks on disabled people carefully woven into his speech, it’s clear Hunt and the Tories aren’t even pretending any more to have solutions for the crisis’ they have created.

However, with tens of thousands marching in London and other cities today from the NEU, PCS and other major trade unions it is clear that the political will is there to fight back. With chants of “What do we want? Fair Pay!” from PSC demonstrators as their march passed Parliament and as Jeremy Hunt read out his budget speech we know that people have had enough and are ready to demand real action on pay and the Cost of Living Crisis.

So what now?
It’s vital that we keep up the pressure and keep organising in our workplaces and communities. With so much existing public support it’s also crucial that we keep building support for the strikes by having conversations with our friends, families and colleagues and making the case for fair pay and fully funded public services, we simply cannot waste this moment. We also urge you to get involved locally in your campaigns and join your People’s Assembly Local Group to continue to campaign against austerity and help us bring about an end to this brutal Tory Government.
