The headlines from today's budget, as is so often the case, are just another layer of expensive paint over the cracks of the country that has been allowed to crumble for years.

There is some good news for those in need - but most should never have been struggling in the first place.



Let's take a look at the announcements and the reality behind them:



- 🔥 The energy support scheme has been extended to June but our energy prices are still more expensive than Europe





- 👩‍👦30 hours of free childcare has been extended to 1&2 year olds but only 20% of the poorest families will qualify





- 🎖️£5 billion extra has been committed to defence spending but 45,000 personnel have been cut since 2010





- 📉The UK is likely to avoid a recession but has the lowest growth of the G7 countries





- 🥫Inflation might drop below 3% this year but food inflation is still 16% with stagnant wages





- 🍺 Pints will be 11p cheaper than supermarkets but 52 pubs are closing every week
