, THIS WEEK, AS WE OBSERVE INTERNATIONAL DAY
AGAINST POLICE BRUTALITY, WE STAND IN SOLIDARITY WITH PEOPLE WHO HAVE
ENDURED POLICE VIOLENCE.

Our #FREETOPROTEST campaign looks into the disproportionate or excessive
responses from authorities’ around the world and shares stories from
protesters who have been targeted by police.

Learn more about the different protesters from around the world who work to
end police brutality at protests, and to reform laws to make protest safer
for everyone.

BOUNDARIES OF EXPRESSION PRESENTS: #FREETOPROTEST SERIES

As part of our Boundaries of Expression podcast, we released 4
#FreeToProtest episodes, With increasing restrictions on our right to
protest in the UK and around the world, we speak to those on the frontline
about the threats they face in the call for change.

In episode 1, our hosts Nicola Kelly and Jo Glanville speak to activists
about the risks they face fighting to protect the planet.

Featuring EVA MARIA ANYANGO OKOTH, a senior programme officer for Natural
Justice in Kenya and MONA SEIF, sister of the British-Egyptian political
prisoner ALAA ABD EL-FATTAH.

For our second episode, we focus on women taking to the streets to protect
their rights, in both Iran and Poland, with MAZIAR BAHARI and MARTA
LEMPART.

Episode 3 looks into the monarchy in Saudi Arabia and the UK, and freedoms
to speak out against them.

In our final episode, we focus on the LGBTQI+ community and the limits on
their right to protest around the world.

We are campaigning to ensure that all people, especially those who face
discrimination, feel empowered to use their right to protest. Over the next
4 years ARTICLE 19 will call on the police, the media, and on policymakers
to end police brutality at protests, and to reform laws to make protests
safer for everyone.
