If you’ve never been to Kentucky, you might not expect to see a thriving movement for the Green New Deal in a place like Bowling Green. But on January 29th, our hub is hosting 19 launch parties to make 2020 the year we elect Bernie Sanders and start the decade of the Green New Deal.

A few months ago, our hub started in the same place that over 2000 hosts will be starting on the 29th: in a room with our friends.

Ahead of the December Climate Strike, we formed two Strike Circles, and began organizing with people we knew. Sunrise’s national network supported us with ideas and strategy along the way, and the Launch Parties are helping us multiply our strength.

If you’ve ever invited people over for dinner, or set the table for Thanksgiving, you have what it takes to lead a Launch Party. Think of it as a birthday party with next steps - only Bernie Sanders is helping out, along with thousands of other Sunrise leaders.

Can you join us in making the 2020 Launch Parties as big as possible? If it can happen here in Bowling Green, I believe it can happen anywhere.

Host a 2020 Launch Party

The best part about organizing something like this is that it’s never all on you, and you get to share the work right away. The handful of us who started the Strike Circles grew right away to 15 dedicated people in our hub, and even more new people are coming in to host Launch Parties.

None of us are superheroes, I promise you. This is possible because the materials for the Launch Parties are so good. We’ll have a preview of the Generation Green New Deal movie, live video presentations from the national network, and a prepared game plan for how the evening will go.

And people get it. When you start to talk about the Green New Deal, they’re on board, almost no matter who they are (unless you happen to be talking to fossil fuel billionaires, in which case… talk to someone else). We’ve built connections across communities here that I never expected.

If you want to make a big impact in November 2020, you need to start in January. We’re building the movement here in Bowling Green conversation by conversation, meeting by meeting, and march by march. You can too, starting on January 29th.
