Dear Jack,

Week 3 of the 2020 legislative session is already over! Thanks so much to the visitors who came by this week to participate in the democratic process.

The Virginia Association of Nurse Anesthetists came to visit! My bill SB 264, which gives certified registered nurse anesthetists the ability to prescribe medication, passed committee this week.

Thanks to the National Coalition of Public Safety Officers for their support! My bill SB 345 makes sure that correctional officers have the same worker protections as other public safety 0fficers in Virginia.

Legislation Updates

Voting Rights: I'm thrilled that we are making huge strides in making voting more accessible this year. So far, the Senate has passed SB 111, which allows no-excuse absentee voting for 45 days prior to an election. We have also passed SB 601, which would make Election Day a state holiday and eliminate Lee-Jackson Day. I'm proud to see Virginia leading the way in making sure that the democratic process is inclusive for everyone.

My Legislation: This has been a busy week -- I was able to pass several of my bills out of committee or subcommittee! One of those bills is SB 263, which ensures that concealed carry permit holders complete an in-person training to demonstrate their safety and competence with firearms. In addition, SB 268, my bill to make gun safes sales tax free, has not only passed committee, it has passed the Senate unanimously. My hope is that these bills will make Virginia a safer place.
