Yesterday was Equal Pay Day, which marks how far into the new year women must work to earn what men earned in the previous year.

On average, women earn 84 cents for every dollar earned by men, but the disparity is even worse for women of color.

It’s a tough pill to swallow that even in 2023, we haven’t reached a milestone as basic as pay equity in the United States. Countries like Iceland, Norway and Sweden have made enormous strides in the fight to tackle the wage gap, so why haven’t we done the same in the US?
