URGENT UPDATE: North Carolina’s Article V bill to reshape our Constitution has passed the House. I need your help to STOP this attack and STOP extremists from gutting our Constitutional rights.
I’m sure this isn’t the first time you’ve heard about the Article V plot against our Constitution, but here’s a quick recap of what’s going on:
Wealthy donors, corporations, and radical far-right actors are attempting to call an Article V Convention in states across the country to reshape our Constitution to their own benefit.
We’ve already heard from one of the ringleaders behind this plot that his goal is to keep the government out of “education, energy, or healthcare.”
That pretty much tells you all you need to know about who will benefit – while people like you and me have to deal with pollution in our neighborhoods, even less funding for public schools, and rising costs for already expensive prescription drugs.
And the worst part? This plot is just six states away from becoming a reality.
That’s right – we can’t afford to lose any ground. Especially when states across the country are rapidly churning out calls for Article V. As I write you, we’re actively fighting 33 new calls for Article V.
Here’s the good news: Common Cause knows what it takes to stop Article V. And we’re already succeeding this year – we just recently stopped an Article V call in Montana by one vote, thanks to the support of members like you.
The secret to our success? Bringing Article V out of the shadows and into the public eye.
You see, the conspirators behind Article V want to keep this plot behind closed doors so they can steal away your rights before you even know what’s happening. They’re counting on the public not catching on, so they can use their millions of dollars in dark money funding to push Article V calls through state legislatures across the country.
That’s where we come in – we’re shining a spotlight on this secretive plot to reshape our Constitution.
We’re writing to our members alerting them of new attempts to pass Article V, driving hundreds of calls to state legislators and putting them on notice, and carrying out our multi-state grassroots organizing strategy to stop new calls for Article V and rescind calls that have already been passed.
