Supporter:
Devastating news:
The White House just approved the ConocoPhillips Willow gas and oil drilling project in Alaska.
It's hard to overstate the catastrophic impact this decision will have on our planet and climate.
Willow would immediately be one of the largest oil and gas extraction projects on public lands. It's estimated to emit nearly 300 million metric tons of carbon dioxide - the equivalent of re-activating one-third of our nation's coal-fired power plants.
We're already experiencing the disastrous effects of climate change–the harmful effects of this decision cannot be overstated. We must fight back and stop corporate polluters from drilling on our public lands and pushing us beyond the brink of survival.
URGENT: Make a monthly gift of just $5 now to build and sustain Sierra Club's work to fight polluters, keep fossil fuels in the ground, and put more pressure on politicians willing to compromise our planet's future.
We cannot drill our way to a sustainable future. And with today's decision, the White House has made it near-impossible to achieve its stated climate goals.
Even more worrying, by approving one of the largest oil and gas extraction projects on federal public lands, one must ask the question what the Biden administration has in store for the Arctic Refuge.
This is a moment when we need all hands on deck. Can you do more to help us stop corporate polluters and save our planet from a complete climate meltdown? Supporter this is why we need you! Your EMERGENCY monthly gift today will help us to:
