Jim Jordan is using his chairmanship of the Judiciary Committee and his farcical “Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government” (or as Hank calls it, the Insurrection Protection Committee) to try and portray Trump and his MAGA Republicans as victims.
We bolded and underlined “try” because it’s not going so well for him.
All through the election, Republicans shouted about Democratic corruption, nefarious plots to target conservatives, and a January 6th counter-narrative that was being covered up. Well, if it all sounds a little conspiracy theory-ish…
That’s because it is. These were all conspiracy theories — which we know because Jim Jordan’s star witnesses are (checks notes) …conspiracy theorists.
Jim Jordan likes to call his witnesses “whistleblowers.” But in actuality, they were paid by Trump insiders, and they spewed conspiracy theories about January 6th and the federal government under oath.
Republicans are scraping the bottom of the barrel trying to find anyone who will prop up their MAGA narrative of victimhood. If Jim Jordan wants to see an ACTUAL example of the weaponization of the federal government, he doesn’t need to look further than his own McCarthyesque subcommittee.
