Dear Neighbors,
When voters send us to the Capitol, they expect us to work together to make the key investments in Minnesota. As Chair of the Sustainable Infrastructure Committee, I go to work every day to deliver those investments. The Minnesota House has taken a critical, bipartisan step forward by approving nearly $1.9 billion in investments for local jobs and projects [ [link removed] ] throughout the state.
The package of legislation we passed addresses hundreds of critical infrastructure projects that have gone unfunded for too long. There are leaky roofs in state buildings, an outdated campus chemistry laboratory, unstable riverbanks, kids taking unsafe routes to schools, housing that needs to be built for our most vulnerable, and failing wastewater infrastructure.?
These and other projects are crucial to communities throughout the state, and inflation is only causing them to increase in cost the longer we delay. This legislation requires a supermajority to pass, meaning the Senate, like the House, will need Republican support to get this funding over the finish line.I hope you?ll join me in calling on Senate Republicans to swiftly pass this legislation.
Here is an update from St. Paul.

Advocating for Minnesota?s Smaller Communities
For smaller communities, tackling a grant application can be a daunting and expensive process. That?s why I introduced a bill last week to establish a formal support structure to help small communities with project development be more competitive in seeking grants. We cannot maximize federal investments in Minnesota without helping smaller communities increase their chances of securing federal investments for their infrastructure needs.

Protecting Pregnant and Nursing Workers
Pregnancy and motherhood are some of the hardest things that I have ever done. At the Capitol, it?s vital we make sure that we?re supporting women and the health of children.
This week, The House passed my bill to expand worker protections for pregnant and breastfeeding Minnesotans in the workplace. This legislation strengthens retaliation provisions and supports expectant and new parents so they can work safely during their pregnancies and take needed breaks to express milk at work. I am so grateful to all of the advocates who have testified and pushed for this much-needed law.

Minnesota Indian Family Preservation Act
Yesterday, the Minnesota House unanimously passed the Minnesota Indian Family Preservation Act, protecting Indigenous children and ensuring they continue to have a lifeline to their culture.
There?s a dark, ugly history of separating children from their tribal nations, and this legislation is an important part of having honest, educational conversations about the experiences of Indigenous people. The erasure of Indigenous people and Tribal Nations isn?t only in our past; it is firmly in our present.
