John – Today marks Equal Pay Day – the day that symbolizes how far into the year the average woman must work to earn what the average man did in the previous year. Women in the U.S. still earn only about $0.84 for every dollar that a man earns. When we look at this gap specifically for women of color, it only gets worse.
I believe in equal pay for equal work, simple as that.
As a working mother, I understand all too well that each one of us deserves the dignity of a fair paycheck and a livelihood that can provide for our families.
Today, I'm renewing my promise to fight for tougher pay discrimination enforcement, raising the federal minimum wage, ending the tipped minimum wage, and passing the PRO Act so workers can freely organize for better wages and benefits.
The 4th district sent me to Congress to fight for fair wages for all, and today is a reminder that we've still got a long road ahead to correct the wrongs of the past.
All the best,
Val
