Hello John,

The most important election of the year is in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where we’re working to elect State Representative Sara Innamorato to the office of Allegheny County Executive. This is a local race with huge implications for the fight to ban fracking, and for the 2024 national elections.

As a State Representative, Sara has been a champion for protecting our air, water, and climate. She has pushed the Pennsylvania House Democratic Caucus to be stronger on climate change. She wrote and passed the most important climate legislation in Pennsylvania’s history. And she authored legislation that would effectively close the hazardous waste loophole in Pennsylvania — fracking waste is largely unregulated — by forcing fracking companies to comply with the Solid Waste Management Act.

You may be thinking, I don’t live in Pennsylvania. Why should I care?

Electing Sara isn’t just essential for Allegheny County’s future — it will have a huge impact on the national elections in 2024. Allegheny County is the second-largest source of Democratic votes in Pennsylvania, a critical Presidential swing state. As County Executive, Sara would work to expand the Democratic electorate by setting up early voting locations around the county, helping to elect Democrats to the Presidency, U.S. Senate, and Congress.

Here’s what you can do to elect Sara:

As we look forward to celebrating World Water Day in March 22, we're reflecting on how important local elections are for protecting our precious, life-giving water resources. This area of Pennsylvania is a critical battleground in the fight to stop fracking and the buildout of petrochemicals — a major source of water pollution. When Sara is elected, she will be in a powerful position to enforce pollution regulations and build a greener, healthier future, setting an example for all of Pennsylvania.

Since 2017, we’ve been electing local leaders who are committed to protecting our food, water, and climate. The only way we'll change our current trajectory is by electing climate champions and democracy defenders at every level of government. Each year we grow stronger thanks to you. Please join us in helping to elect Sara Innamorato in this critical local election!

Onwards,

Mitch Jones
Deputy Director
Food & Water Action

P.S. I can't emphasize enough how important it is to have a strong Democratic turnout in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania if we’re to keep the White House blue in 2024. Read more about why this local election has national implications: [link removed]
