Today, I was thrilled to be in Abu Dhabi for a historic moment as the United Arab Emirates (UAE) announced the formation of the

Manara Center — The Regional Center for Coexistence, with ADL as a flagship partner. We will be the key player in providing research, educational and partnership programming for this incredible effort to promote progress towards peace and coexistence in the Middle East.
The threat posed by all forms of hate is not constrained by international borders. We are eager to bring our 100 years of expertise in combating the roots of antisemitism and hate of all forms to this effort, which will forge relationships with universities to promote peace, security and prosperity through coexistence in the Middle East and around the world.
The program will utilize the promise of youth — today’s learners and tomorrow’s leaders — to build a community resilient to hate, radicalization and conflict. Universities taking part are in UAE, Jordan, Morocco, Sudan, Bahrain, Israel and the U.S. The first “semester” of programs will begin this August.

At the kickoff event His Excellency Dr. Ali Al Nuaimi, the Chairman of the new Center, expressed his delight to partner with ADL as one of the world’s best organizations to promote peace, dispel stereotypes and to bring people from all backgrounds together. I am honored to represent ADL on the Center’s Board of Directors.
What makes this initiative different? It harnesses the creativity and innovation of tech-savvy youth to overcome hate by leveraging their networks to foster the Center’s objectives. University students will put into practice the goals of the Manara Center by taking a leading role in creating solutions to preventing hate, antisemitism and other forms of ethnic or religious bigotry and violence.
