I thought we had another week, but apparently mail-in ballots are out. I'm asking you to vote for the candidate who is putting the people and the planet before corporate profits or donations. And I hope that every NPP voter remembers that your ballot won't have a presidential choice unless you request a "Democratic crossover ballot". You can take your NPP ballot back to a voting center and exchange it for a "Democratic crossover ballot". But it's important to remember those three words. I'm being told that poll workers are being instructed (and I don't know for sure if this is true) to turn voters down if they don't use the right words. For example:

NPP voter: "I forgot to ask for a Democratic ballot. Can I switch?"

Poll worker: "I can't give you a Democratic ballot."

So remember: "Democratic crossover ballot".

Today we have an economic system geared toward enriching the wealthy, a healthcare system geared toward enriching the wealthy, an education system geared toward enriching the wealthy and a foreign policy geared toward enriching the wealthy. See the trend? Of course you do. You see it every day. But the Rose Caucus is coming. We are 22 socialist or democratic socialist candidates who want to join the likes of Bernie Sanders, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ro Khanna and Ilhan Omar in transforming our system into a system that is based on justice, not on greed. And we are growing. There are at least 150 progressive Congressional candidates across this country. When we defeat establishment politicians, like Mike Thompson, and begin implementing an agenda that prioritizes you over corporate profits, everything will be coming up roses.

The bill he is talking about in this article is HR 1616, which I have been talking about for nearly a year now. Democrats like Mike Thompson passed the bill the day after Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez announced her Green New Deal with Mike Thompson at her side. What he says about pretending it will develop green energy is exactly what Mike Thompson's surrogate, Mayor Elizabeth Patterson, said at the Benicia debate. Why did Mike Thompson co-sponsor the Green New Deal and then turn around and vote for dozens of fracking projects in Europe? And how is this "doing everything we can to prevent climate change"?
In my view, if you have to take care of an elderly or sick loved one at home, there should be a streamlined process for you to be certified as a healthcare worker and you should be paid through the Medicare For All system that we will create.

In the north of the district, and in the south of the district, those communities badly need some investment in their economies. They need jobs. When I am elected, I will work to find investors in the central part of the district, who will help to fund worker co-ops. This will provide jobs, it will invest in communities, reduce crime AND provide a return on their investment. Vallejo and Benicia residents are working on a pretty great one right here, called Cultivate Community Food Co-op . Not only will this particular co-op provide jobs and invest in the community, it also addresses the need for affordable places to buy food. Much of Vallejo is considered a food desert. Cultivate can and will succeed. And since I'm using them as an example, I'll also mention that they are looking for more investors. Check it out.

I find it entirely forgivable that, immediately following the attack on the World Trade Center on 9/11/2001 our Congress would react in fear and pass the PATRIOT Act. Terror won, the day it was signed into law. We, as a country, restricted our own freedoms. We gave up our rights. Out of fear.

But instead of repealing what was a grave mistake, and incidentally, a violation of our Constitution, a little over a decade later our Congress passed the USA Freedom Act. And then a few years later, the FISA Authorities Act of 2017. And then, at the end of last year, they reauthorized the parts of the PATRIOT Act that were expiring.

There is no excuse for this. Every elected official (and even officials who are appointed) swear an oath to protect and uphold our Constitution. When our Congress has voted for the PATRIOT Act, the USA Freedom Act and the FISA Authority Act, these were assaults on our constitutional rights. This is exactly the opposite of what they are sworn to do. And instead of holding the officials who voted for them accountable, we reelect them.

Too many of us judge elected officials by an imaginary personal connection, rather than by their actual voting record. No one who just voted to reauthorize the PATRIOT Act should be reelected. They should all be disqualified from running. But many voters won't research records.

Any Congressperson who truly wanted to protect the Constitution would be trying to repeal the PATRIOT Act, not reauthorize it. Shame on you, Mike Thompson, for voting for every one of these assaults on our constitutional rights.

Iraqis have been protesting in huge numbers to try to get U.S. forces to withdraw from their country ever since Trump assassinated Iranian military leader Suleimani in Iraq. I thought I'd share this portion of one of Dr. Martin Luther King jr's speeches with you.

"I speak now not of the soldiers of each side, not of the ideologies of the Liberation Front, not of the junta in Saigon, but simply of the people who have been living under the curse of war for almost three continuous decades now. I think of them, too, because it is clear to me that there will be no meaningful solution there until some attempt is made to know them and hear their broken cries." - Dr. Martin Luther King jr
