Four Upcoming Events

Fellow Democrats, Brothers and Sisters,

On Sunday 26 January I will be speaking in two candidate forums, one live-streamed on Facebook and the other in person in Temecula. The first is hosted by Umbrella PAC and can be viewed here. The other is at the Progressive Veterans of Riverside County and details can be found here.

Quick reminder that I will be at the California Democratic Party's Coordinated Campaign Kick-Off on 1 February. Details can be found here.

Also, mark your calendars because on 16 February at a comedy-themed fundraiser in Murrieta my beard-braids are going to be snipped off. My fiancée especially is looking forward to the event! Details will be announced on our social media soon, so if you're not following those, please do.

Of course, I also need to ask for your help. Please follow this link and send in whatever you can spare, so that we can finish strong in the primary and take down the incumbent. The 42nd deserves real representation!

Thank you all for your support, and please know that it is an honor to stand beside you and fight for change, justice, and prosperity for all.

Yours in solidarity,

Liam

For anyone new to following the campaign, below is a short introduction and some useful links:

My name is Liam O'Mara, and I am the Democratic Party-endorsed candidate for the 42nd Congressional District, and I would like to take a moment to introduce myself and my campaign.

I am a professor of history at CalState Dominguez Hills and Chapman University, where I specialize in the Middle East, Europe, and the history of ideas. As a historian, I have an acute sense of the long-term decline in the American working class and the shrinking opportunities to access that middle-class American Dream.

I have a personal tie to that dream, being the first in my family with a college degree. My father has retired after 50 years on the waterfront in ILWU and my mother was a child care provider in SEIU. In my earlier life I worked as a frycook, truck driver, longshoreman, and computer technician, and remain a lifelong union member (currently in CFA and AFT).

My campaign attempts to frame progressive policies in ways that make sense to busy working people, and my platform is broadly based in the kind of kitchen-table New Deal economic ideals that built the middle class. These include:
  • Arguments to increase wages overall, restoring the tie to productivity gains which created the middle class;
  • Pushing through campaign finance reform, to remove big money from our political system;
  • Pursuing a Green New Deal to get us the energy infrastructure changes needed to tackle climate change;
  • Moving to single-payer health care, to lower the cost and improve quality in our struggling system;
  • Making public colleges and trade schools tuition free, so that more Americans can find the training they need to compete in a 21st century economy;
  • Addressing the decline of unions and the rising threat of automation, which will take 43% of American jobs in the coming decades.

I have been endorsed by a number of organizations thus far, including the California Democratic Party, the California Young Democrats, the California Progressive Alliance, Blue America, Marianne's Candidates, the California Faculty Association - DH, International Longshore and Warehouse Union SCDC, and all of the big Democratic clubs in my region (TVD, DSRC, DCN, FTBDR. etc.).

I would be honored to include you as a supporter, and to have your help in taking my message directly to the voters of the 42nd. I will include a number of useful links below, and hope that you will check us out and consider making a donation.
