Today President Biden Announces Executive Action to Reduce Gun Violence.
President Biden is traveling to Monterey Park to grieve with the families and community impacted by the mass shooting that claimed 11 lives and injured nine others. Monterey Park joins communities across the country that are forever changed due to gun violence.
While there he will announce executive actions to:
-
Strengthen background checks by clarifying who's considered "in business" of dealing in firearms.
- Address the 250% increase in the loss or theft of firearms during shipping.
- Request public releases of ATF inspections of gun dealers that violate federal law
- Strengthen government acquisition process for the Department of Defense
- Push for an independent report on the gun industry marketing practices to minors
-
Accelerate federal reporting of ballistics data after shootings
- Accelerate the implementation of the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act
- Request government wide proposals on how agencies can best support of survivors, victims, first responders and communities affected by gun violence.
After the tragedy in Buffalo, the first call we made was to the White House demanding the federal government do more to support the community devastated by the heinous attack.
While on the ground, we saw hundreds of cameras and local community leaders doing all they could to help those in pain, but minimal government support during those critical days immediately after the tragedy. Since then, we have pushed the White House to strengthen the government response to better support communities that crippled by acts of gun violence, similar to how they address other disruptive federal emergencies.
Today we are proud to see official White House direction to create such response.
