You have the right to know what your health care will cost
Friend,
When Amanda Partee-Manders received a $47,091.01 hospital bill for giving birth via C-section, she was shocked. But what shocked her even more than the grand total was the itemized breakdown of her bill, which she received only after demanding it from the hospital system.

The fees included $12,000 for her recovery room, nearly $4,000 for IV Tylenol, and a $522 outpatient charge—despite Amanda never being an outpatient at that hospital.

Amanda was so outraged by some of the charges, she took to TikTok to share her story, where users are partaking in a viral internet trend sharing outrageous medical charges they’ve faced.

At IWF, we want to help shed light on these stories and ensure no one receives shocking medical bills after receiving care.

Since the Hospital Price Transparency Rule took effect in 2021, federal law requires healthcare providers to display prices upfront so patients can plan, shop, and not experience sticker shock for their health care.

Yet, a new report revealed that over 75% of hospitals are still not complying with this new rule and continue to hide prices from patients.

Americans deserve the accountability and affordability in health care that true price transparency will bring. You shouldn’t have to guess what you will owe for healthcare services, and you shouldn’t have to fear getting hit with surprise bills after receiving care. If the prices being promoted sound too expensive, you should be able to shop elsewhere for care.

We need you to help us ensure this happens by sharing your first-hand account of receiving a surprise medical bill, or encouraging your friends to tell us their stories about feeling ripped off by the healthcare system. ([link removed])

Your stories will help us demand that insurers and medical providers give patients the access, freedom, and security surrounding their health care that they deserve.

No one should be forced to pay nearly $4,000 for IV Tylenol—especially not a new mom!
