Congratulations to Pam for quickly identifying the Black-throated Blue Warbler (Setophaga caerulescens). According to All About Birds, this species is currently wintering in the Caribbean and will make its way north this spring, migrating at night, to breeding grounds in the Appalachian Mountains, New England and parts of Canada. In the Appalachians, they tend to occur at elevations of 2,600–5,250 feet above sea level, but they occur at lower elevations in hilly terrain farther north. After breeding, individuals often move to shrubby young forests (also known as early successional habitats) with their offspring.
