BREAKING — the Biden-Harris administration has just approved the Willow Project, a massive oil drilling project proposed by ConocoPhillips in Alaska.
Make no mistake,
Willow will have devastating environmental impacts for decades to come. It will wreak havoc on federal land, cause health risks to Indigenous people who live nearby, and lock us into decades of dirty fossil fuel production.
We are extremely disappointed, Friend. This decision is in direct conflict with the administration’s commitment to cut climate pollution in half by 2030.
What happens next?
Allowing the Willow Project to move forward will add massive amounts of carbon emissions into the atmosphere. Our climate is already warming rapidly, and we need to be
reducing our dependence on oil and gas — not building more fossil fuel infrastructure and delaying the transition to clean and renewable energy. We’ll now need to push
even harder to achieve meaningful emissions reductions.
It’s now all the more important that the Biden-Harris administration doubles down on executive action that will put climate and conservation goals within reach.
Our movement must hold them accountable.
What can I do?
The environmental movement will never stop fighting for a cleaner, healthier, and more just future for our communities and our planet. To achieve this vision, we need you in our corner.
The administration is already taking notice of us, Friend.
They announced new protections that will limit further drilling across millions of acres of Alaska and the Arctic Ocean. It was
your actions — all of the calls, letters, donations, and more — that made this happen.
We’re just getting started. In the weeks and months ahead, we’ll be in touch with more actions that you can take to fight for our climate, healthy communities, and a more just future.
Thanks for standing with us, Friend. We’re disappointed to be sharing this news, but knowing that people like you are with us in this fight makes us confident we’ll ultimately secure a better environmental future.
Onward,
LCV Rapid Response
