The New York Times released a poll this morning showing Bernie Sanders leading the Democratic race in Iowa.

But it also showed Pete better positioned than any other Democrat to win against Trump in the general election.

Bernie performs the worst against Trump amongst all major candidates.

In short, we risk nominating a candidate who cannot beat Donald Trump in November. And that's a risk we can't take.

Bernie is both out-raising and out-spending our campaign, and has help from a D.C. Super PAC and a “dark money” group.

That puts our ability to win the general election at risk. If he can’t beat Trump, we’ll all be subject to four more years of failed politics and demagoguery. We need to focus on November and winning the general election, but we can’t do that unless we succeed in the early contests. 

Donald Trump won by exploiting Americans’ anger at the broken politics of Washington, which is why the riskiest thing we could do is offer more of the same -- the same arguments, the same politics that says “if you’re not with me, you’re against me,” the same outlook that values pitting us against each other instead of rallying us together.  

It’s time to turn the page. With Donald Trump waiting on the other side of this contest, we can’t risk more of the same. 

Pete’s offering a new path forward with a new kind of politics. One where we’re not defined by who we voted for in the last election, but by our common future. One that rallies us together behind bold ideas. One that will turn out Democrats, draw Independents, and future former Republicans to the challenges we face. That’s how we’ll defeat Donald Trump and move our country forward after him.
