Dear John,

We’re immensely moved by timely and compassionate support from our community this past week. When an unexpected snowstorm damaged our Acton, California sanctuary, you kindly stepped up, sending much needed funds and love to our rescued animal residents and sanctuary staff.

The outpouring of concern and generosity inspires us.

There’s still work to be done, but we’ve been able to tackle the most pressing repairs steadily over the past week — critical efforts to restore our highest priority: the quality of life for the rescued residents in our care.

We want to extend our appreciation to our animal care and environment teams. They have been true heroes — continuing to provide individualized care for the animals while managing the many on-site repairs.

In the past week, we have …

• Trimmed all damaged trees on our 26-acre property.
• Removed branches that blocked our aviary’s outdoor access. Our feathered residents are once again safely enjoying the outdoors.
• Repaired our goat shader, which is now fully functional. We’re awaiting material to restore our large cattle shader, which should arrive soon!
• Repaired the roof of the aviary yard, which corrected the breach in predator-proofing and safety risk for staff.
• Filled in dangerous sinkholes, including a large sinkhole in the upper cattle yard.

The metal roof on our main feed storage area remains collapsed, but a new roof is coming! In the meantime, we are storing hay and straw under one of the barn patios. While this requires more frequent deliveries of smaller loads, we’ve been able to coordinate this effectively with feed suppliers.

Thank you for helping us not only recover but rebuild stronger. As climate disruptions — from snowstorms to wildfires — become more frequent, we have other critical, long-term infrastructure improvements and plans in the works. These will build resilience and preparedness for weather-related damage in the future.
