Things are heating up at the State Capitol as the anti-gunners are moving through the halls like a nasty virus – all told, GOC is tracking over 40 bills in the Legislature. As spot (placeholder) bills are being amended and committees have amped up, we are getting a better picture of what the 2A legislative landscape looks like. To that end, GOC always appreciates when a legislator is willing to step into this hostile arena, and last week Assemblyman Bill Essayli did just that when he presented AB 328 before the Assembly Public Safety Committee. Kudos for his effort – and we share his frustration: “The Assembly Public Safety Committee should be renamed the Criminal Safety Committee. Democrats in Sacramento care more about protecting criminals from punishment than protecting victims of violent crime. That’s why they killed my bill AB 328 this morning; my bill would have only applied to criminals committing the most horrendous, violent crimes with a gun, and it would have reestablished a sentencing enhancement to keep those criminals off our streets. Every time there is a gun tragedy, Democrats want to punish law-abiding gun owners rather than the violent criminals—it is shameful, dishonest, and I will not stop fighting against this insanity in Sacramento.” Assemblyman Bill Essayli, District 63 It makes sense to follow that news item with the absolute shocker that gun crimes continue to plague California in spite of the stunning number of gun laws we have on the books. Not surprisingly, but applications for CCW permits are on the rise as well. That’s good news – we just need the permits to be issued! And lest we think there’s nothing but bad news, here’s some good news! LET’S GET TOGETHER! Check out our GOC events which are right around the corner. Good games, good food and the best people.
