I take wildfires and fire safety extremely seriously. That’s why the news
coming out of Australia breaks my heart. An area approximately the size of
Portugal has been burnt up, killing 25 people and hundreds of thousands of
animals in its wake.

Australians feel abandoned by their government and are furious at the policies
that ignored climate change and enabled these fires to grow as deadly as they
did.

Here in California, we understand the struggle of fighting forest fires and
the incredible devastation it brings to our forests and communities. We know
what it's like to be afraid of a fire taking our homes or worried about our
loved ones in the face of such monumental natural disasters. 

It’s up to us to put policies in place NOW that will mitigate climate change
and will create more fire-resilient communities.
