Breaking; IUCN Recognizes
“More Evidence of Vaquita Survival”
Dear John,
The International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN), issued an encouraging report about Sea Shepherd’s Operation Milagro and the positive impact it is having on the Vaquita Porpoise.
The IUCN describes itself as “the global authority on the status of the natural world and the measures needed to safeguard it,” The report from their Cetacean Specialist Group is entitled “
Good News From The Zero Tolerance Area in Late 2022: Less Illegal Gillnetting And More Evidence Of Vaquita Survival<[link removed]>” and can be viewed

Their report references Sea Shepherd’s Science Reports that chart Operation Milagro’s impact on illegal fishing activity in the ZTA. They are routinely updated and can be found

Sea Shepherd just released the 2023 Operation Milagro Report; a comprehensive summary of the nine-year Operation Milagro itself, including data that demonstrates a 79% reduction in the total hours of illegal fishing in the ZTA. This work is only possible because of supporters like YOU, who stand with us on the line between extinction and survival for some of the most endangered species on earth. And we thank you.
