John,

There’s something sinister hiding in your bathroom.

Research published in Environmental Science and Technology Letters has found evidence of forever chemicals in toilet paper — which could be the culprit for PFAS entering wastewater treatment systems.

PFAS can be found everywhere: in non-stick cookware, fast food wrappers, furniture, paper wrappers, carpets, and rugs. And they aren’t going anywhere. PFAS do not break down in nature, contaminate our drinking water, and have been linked to a slew of health concerns such as cancer, higher infertility rates, and lower birth weights in newborns.

Which begs the question…why are we using them in our toilet paper?! Because PFAS have become so widespread, it is incredibly hard for the average consumer to be able to avoid them all on their own. And water contamination is pervasive across the country. That’s where SEEC steps in.

Because of the work of SEEC members like Rep. Debbie Dingell of Michigan and Rep. Chris Pappas of New Hampshire, the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law included $5 billion for states and territories to spend to address PFAS contamination. As this money is starting to be rolled out, we’re anticipating for the EPA to roll out new proposed restrictions on forever chemicals in drinking water. All because of SEEC demanding action.

John, SEEC members of Congress have proven that they won’t let up on this issue until all of our drinking water is safe from pollution. However, many of them are currently at risk of losing their reelections unless we step up now to make sure they stay in their seats.
