Dear John,

Congress just introduced never-before-seen legislation to expand access to in-home and community aging and disability care and end waiting lists for that care. We’ve been pushing for a bill like this for years, and now’s the time to make sure this bill is a priority for Congress. Here’s why it’s so important.

Right now, long-term care services are not available to everyone who needs them, and the care workers who provide those services don’t make a living wage. The new Home and Community Based Services Access Act (HAA) would widely improve access to services for older adults and disabled people so they can stay in their own homes and communities, pay care workers fairly, and provide family caregivers with support they need. The more we advocate for this bill, the more likely it is to pass.

Tell Congress: Expand access to in-home aging and disability care. [[link removed]]

Our nation is in a care crisis. For too long, families across the U.S. have struggled to afford long-term care. More than 650,000 families are on waiting lists, often waiting years or decades for the in-home and community care they need.

Most disabled people and older adults want to receive care in their own homes and communities. But too often, older adults, disabled people, and their families are left with no little to no resources and no choice but to enter nursing homes or other facilities to get the care they need.

That’s why we’ve worked with our elected leaders to introduce the HAA. It’s essential for addressing the care crisis. It would open up access to in-home care services for nearly 1 million people – changing lives and families across the country – and would eliminate years-long waiting lists. It would also support care workers with better pay, benefits and labor protections. And, for the first time ever, it would ensure that anyone who is eligible for Medicaid home- and community- based services would be entitled to receive them.

We need Congress to know that this bill has our support.

This legislation is one crucial step in our fight to make sure everyone has the ability to live independent lives and age with dignity in their own home. The more people like you and me push for this bill, the more our care agenda is being heard by our Congressional leaders.

Thank you for fighting for a better care system for all.

With care,
