Happy AmeriCorps Week, John.

Founded in 1993 under President Clinton, AmeriCorps began with the mission to improve lives, strengthen communities, and foster civic engagement through service and volunteering. For nearly 30 years, AmeriCorps volunteers have carried that mission and made a tremendous impact throughout our country.

As we celebrate AmeriCorps day, I'm reflecting on my experience with this program and how this very organization was the catalyst for my passion for public service.

Helping to create and run one of the first national programs with the I Have a Dream Foundation truly changed my life. Connecting AmeriCorps members and their opportunities to serve with young people around the country made me appreciate the special role that volunteers, public servants, and nonprofits can play in bringing resources and hope to all of our communities.

By doing good for others, I know we can all move forward together, which is why I’m proud to lead the National Service Caucus in the Senate and have pushed for legislation to expand AmeriCorps programs across the country.

Today and always, I am proud to celebrate the immense contributions AmeriCorps volunteers have made to our nation. I look forward to continuing the work to create more opportunities for community engagement and follow the great American tradition of service.

Thank you,

Chris Coons
