committee
It?s been another busy week with committees and meetings with constituents. This week I met with elected officials of Norwood Young America and the City of Carver. Tuesday, the Humane Society brought puppies to the Capitol, and the bonding bills for Watertown, New Germany, and New Auburn were heard in the Capitol Investment Committee.
Safe and Sound Minnesota
One of the top issues for our district has been the increase in crime. Minnesota has a crime epidemic, and we have a right to safe communities. We need to get tough on criminals and it?s time to make crime illegal. We need to support our police!
The Safe and Sound Minnesota Plan focuses on three parts:
* Confront the threat of violent and repeat criminals. This can be done by making carjacking a crime and increased penalties for fleeing police in a motor vehicle.
* We need more police officers. We need a robust recruitment, training, and retention plan. Our police need the tools and training to keep our communities safe!
* Hold our judges and prosecutors accountable. We can start with more transparency of our court system. We need mandatory minimum sentences and who posts bail should be public data. Also, requiring reporting by County Attorneys to provide data to the legislature about felony level offenses that go uncharged.?
We deserve more information regarding the surge of increased crime at the hands of serious repeat offenders who should have been in jail when they commit additional crimes against the public.
Give it Back
With a nearly $18 billion surplus, the time to relieve the tax burden on Minnesotans is now. The Give It Back tax plan that was introduced would return over $13 billion in tax relief over two years.
Some highlights of the plan include:
* Fully eliminating the tax on Social Security
* A one-time child tax credit that would be available for two years
* Slashing the first tax bracket by 1%
* Slashing the second tax bracket by 1%
Capital Investment Bill Presentation
bill presentation
This week I presented three bills in the Capital Investment Committee. The bills, HF 264 [ [link removed] ], HF 376 [ [link removed] ], and HF 542 [ [link removed] ], are all bonding projects that would upgrade crucial infrastructure in the district.
You can watch the committee here [ [link removed] ] and read the bills at the link above. Every city was represented well, and I continue working towards getting these projects funded.
