Since I first took office, I have always prioritized the issues that matter most to working families. Many don’t know this, but our district has a rich history in the labor movement. In the 1830s, decades before some of the better known movements for workers' rights began, the Lowell Mill Girls, a group of young women who worked in textile mills, created the first union of working women in American history.

These women faced grueling working conditions, long hours, and low wages, but they refused to be silenced. They organized and mobilized for their rights at a time when women couldn't even vote. Their legacy lives on today in the labor movement, which continues to fight for workers' rights and fair treatment.

I’m so proud to represent a district that was home to such a historic group of trailblazing women.
