her new baby -- only to find out her new calf, Tali, is dead. Grieving and
stunned, Tahlequah carries her calf's lifeless body for weeks. To this day, her family is still suffering -- starving and grieving more orca deaths since
then -- and it could become even worse if Big Polluters' projects move forward, opening Southern Resident orcas to
more noise pollution and an extinction-level event like an oil spill. Stop Big Oil and Big Shipping from killing off the last 73 Southern Resident
orcas and our planet: Make your $27 contribution and help us reach our $6,100
goal before midnight!

Because Southern Resident orca pods are so tight-knit, Tahlequah's family was
there with her as she mourned her baby. They even took turns floating Tali's
body so Tahlequah could have a moment to rest -- up until she was ready to say
goodbye to her calf after carrying her for 1,000 miles.
Since then, Southern Resident orcas have lost other members of their pods,
including young Ripple, Cappuccino, and the matriarch Marina. With only 73
Southern Resident killer whales left IN THE WORLD, every one of these orcas is
precious not only to the survival of the species but to their entire family. The
losses are hitting the remaining orcas hard -- they mourn every loss, and with
each one, their chances of survival decrease. Now, Big Polluters are looking to be the final nail in these orcas' coffins
with their proposed megaprojects. We can't let it come to that, Friend.
Megaprojects threaten these last remaining endangered orcas. Make your gift of
$27 or more to help us in the fight to protect these majestic creatures and our
planet.

[[link removed]]The reality is that many Southern Resident orcas are starving -- slowly and
mercilessly -- to death. This is because of the lack of their primary food
source: Chinook salmon. But these salmon are already scarce and becoming more so
as loud oil tanker noise and ship traffic move through their waters.
The proposed Roberts Bank T2 shipping container project expansion is massive --
indicative of the terrible impact it will have on these orcas. If built, the
massive container ships will disrupt the migration patterns of Chinook salmon,
the main food source for the endangered orcas. It will force young salmon into
open ocean waters before they are strong enough -- creating a chronic lack of
food.
As if that wasn't bad enough, oil tanker traffic could also increase
exponentially due to the proposed Trans Mountain Pipeline project, which plans
to pump an additional 590,000 barrels PER DAY of the dirtiest kind of oil, tar
sands oil. Just one oil spill from the major increase in oil tankers in their habitat
could wipe out the last remaining 73 Southern Resident orcas in one fell swoop. Oil spills are not hypothetical -- they are practically guaranteed in any area
where oil is shipped.
Neither the proposed Roberts Bank T2 shipping terminal nor the Trans Mountain
Pipeline expansion can exist alongside the endangered Southern Resident orcas if
we want them to survive. There is no way around it. The only way to save these
whales from extinction is to stop these disastrous megaprojects in their tracks. We are working to fight back against these projects to help protect Southern
Resident orcas and our planet, but we are falling $6,100 short of our goal. Will you join us in our fight before it's too late?
Stop Big Oil and the shipping industry from wiping out Southern Resident orcas
and our planet. Support Friends of the Earth with a $27 donation and help us
reach our $6,100 goal before midnight.

[[link removed]]Orcas play a special and irreplaceable role in our ecological systems: Whales
and other large sea animals are key to combating climate change and protecting
our own future.
Whales serve as ecosystem engineers and provide crucial nutrients to
phytoplankton -- tiny ocean plants that produce over 50% of our oxygen --
sequester hundreds of thousands of tons of carbon per year, and make up the
foundation of the marine food system upon which all ocean life depends. We are
interdependent: We rely on these whales for our future -- just as they are counting on us now. But the shipping and oil industries will drive them to extinction, all in the
interest of their own profit, without a second thought to the consequences.
We still have a chance to save these incredible creatures, but time is running
out. Your membership gift to Friends of the Earth today can help us reach our
$6,100 goal to help protect endangered orcas, their marine ecosystems, and our
planet. But it's an uphill battle -- and if we don't have you by our side now as
we work to stop these latest megaprojects, we could miss our window of
opportunity.
People power, and donations from members like you, can make the difference. The fate of these Southern Resident Killer Whales hangs in the balance.
Help protect the most endangered killer whales on the planet and make your $27
contribution today.
