Hi John,
It's Women's History Month, and we're not just celebrating women's history — we're creating it.
How? By working to elect more women to state and local offices not just this month, but year-round.
And we've got our work cut out for us. Women make up 51% of the U.S. population but only 30% of elected officials. That's not good enough, which is why we're here to do something about it.
Abortion rights. Voting rights. Fighting book bans. You name it, women are doing it, and we're going to make sure they keep doing it by electing more women to state and local offices everywhere.

Here are just a few of the stellar candidates we're supporting this year:
-
Daniela Velázquez, running for City of St. Louis Board of Aldermen, Ward 6, is a public servant who is campaigning to become the FIRST Latinx elected to the Saint Louis Board of Aldermen for the city’s 6th ward! If elected, she will join the less than 2% of Latinx individuals who are currently serving as elected officials in the US.
-
Sarah Parady, running for Denver City Council, At-Large. Sarah is in the trenches to make city-owned social housing a reality, moving public safety resources away from criminalizing poverty, funding housing first and harm reduction models, and transforming transit with equity, climate resilience, and accessibility in mind.
-
Makaya Little, running for Virginia House, District 19, is a mother, equity advocate, survivor, and progressive champion. She is running in one of the most diverse districts in the nation and vows to center equity in all of Virginia’s legislation.
-
Candi Lee CdeBaca, running for re-election to Denver City Council, District 9, is the first LGBTQIA+ Latinx and first Democratic Socialist to serve on the Denver City Council. As an elected official, Candi successfully led the charge to divest from halfway houses run by private prison companies, and co-sponsored the Eviction Defense Right to Counsel ordinance, among many other accomplishments.
And this is only a snapshot of the progressive women running for local office this year.
Undoing the damage of generations of patriarchy and lack of political representation takes work, but we know these women are up to the challenge. Each step forward for women is a step for all of us.
