The funding will go toward improvements and updates to the historic auditorium

The Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation is donating $200,000 to Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools for improvements to the RJ Reynolds Auditorium, which is on the campus of RJ Reynolds High School in Winston-Salem.

The auditorium, which opened on May 8, 1924, and was built for two reasons: to be a public theater and to be an asset to Reynolds High School.

“In addition to being used daily for classes, the RJR Auditorium is a place where students can gain confidence, discover talents and express themselves through art,” said Maurice “Mo” Green, executive director of the Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation. “As the auditorium approaches its 100^th birthday, improvements will ensure that students and the greater community can enjoy it for years to come.”
