Absentee Voting Permitted for Election Day Weather Warnings

You may vote absentee when the National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for Election Day covering your town or ward if you have concerns for your safety traveling in the storm. Here's how you do it: 1. If you are not sure, check to make sure the winter storm warning covers your town or ward: [link removed]. 2. Call your town or city clerk’s office to make sure they are open the day before election day (at minimum, they have to open between 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. to allow you to vote absentee). 3. When you go there, ask your clerk for an absentee ballot application and absentee ballot. 4. Without leaving, fill out the application and the ballot and return them to the clerk (the clerk has to provide you space to fill out this paperwork). If you find your clerk unsure of this process, please refer the clerk to this statute: RSA 657:1, II. If you find that the clerk’s office isn’t open to process your absentee vote or if it declines to do so, you may call, The Secretary of State’s Election Help Line at 603-271-3242, or The Attorney General’s Election Help Line at 866-868-3703.
