Dear MoveOn member,
This is Ben Cohen, co-founder of Ben & Jerry's ice cream and longtime MoveOn member.
Do you ever feel grateful? Truly appreciative of someone or something in your life?
Right now, I'm feeling that genuine gratitude toward MoveOn—an organization that brings millions of us together from every corner of the country to fight for a more just country and to save our planet, regardless of which party is in power, and that does so on the fuel of grassroots energy and donations.
I'm about to tell you more about why I'm feeling the MoveOn gratitude. But first, let me get to the point of this email: I'm asking you to donate $5 a month to keep the engines of this grassroots machinery moving ... and in doing so, you'll have a chance to win a copy of a book I wrote ... signed by, well, me. And, of course, I'll also throw in a pint of ice cream.
What do you say? Can you make a $5 monthly gift to help MoveOn, which has been there to help in so many fights across the decades? Remember, when you chip in, you'll be entered for a chance to win a signed copy of my book and a pint of ice cream.
No, I'm sorry, I can't make a monthly donation.
Over the years, I've worked with MoveOn on all manner of issues: stamping big money out of politics, pushing for diplomacy around the world, demanding that the ultrawealthy pay their fair share, and so much more.
Right now, MoveOn is fighting on all these fronts and more—MoveOn members are showing up to protect abortion access and cancel student debt, defend our democracy and resist MAGA extremism, advocate for workers, and confront corporate power.
It's a lot! And that doesn't surprise me, because MoveOn has more going on than a pint of Everything but the Kitchen Sink (which, as you can tell, has a lot going on).
That's why I support MoveOn. And that's why I'm asking you to do the same. When you make a gift of $5 a month—or whatever you can afford—you'll be entered for a chance to win a copy of my latest book ... signed by me ... and a pint of ice cream!

Here's what I like about MoveOn:
Here's one more thing: MoveOn is unafraid of complicated ideas. And that has to do with some of what I'm working on now.
In my own work recently, I've been focused on how we can curb police violence—particularly the violence committed against Black and brown Americans. This is a complicated issue that won't be solved by punishing one or two "bad apples," investing hundreds of millions more in training officers, or popular brands writing "Black Lives Matter" on their Instagram feeds. As important as some of that is, there's a bigger picture, and I've been learning more about it ... and writing more too.
I recently wrote a book called Above the Law, which is about one reform that could have enormous impact on reducing police violence, saving Black lives, and reshaping the interactions between our police and communities of color: ending qualified immunity—the sweeping protection police officers receive from civil lawsuits.
And though I know that one book won't transform policy, many more people need to know about and understand qualified immunity if we have any hope of ending it.
That's why I'd like to send you a signed copy of my book—and I'd like to ask you to support MoveOn. MoveOn has millions of members around the country, and one thing it does really well is help bring new, complicated, and provocative ideas to its massive membership.
We need organizations like MoveOn—an organization that will advocate to end qualified immunity and also use its resources, megaphone, and platforms to engage its millions of members in what qualified immunity is; an organization that will fight the battles in Congress today while preparing for the battles tomorrow.
So please support MoveOn with a $5 monthly gift—and in doing so, check out my book—and together, let's learn, organize, advocate, lead, and work.
