Williams Weekly
Dear Texans,
President Biden released his proposed fiscal year 2024 budget this week and sadly, but not surprisingly he doubles down on out-of-control spending and increased taxes for hard-working Americans. During a time when families and small businesses are battling runaway inflation, increased interest rates, broken supply chains, and a growing labor shortage we should be focusing on reducing federal spending and giving Americans the relief they deserve. Thankfully, with a Republican-led House, these massive tax increases and spending spree will never see the light of day.
Protecting America’s Small Businesses
This week, the House passed H.J. Res 27 to overturn the Biden Administration’s new Waters of the United States rule that would increase uncertainty and compliance costs for many small businesses. Since President Biden was sworn into office, the regulatory actions of his administration have cost the private sector nearly $360 billion in compliance costs, and an estimated 220 million hours in new paperwork requirements. For too long, President Biden and his overreaching EPA have ignored the voices of small businesses such as farmers, ranchers, and real estate developers. Prior to voting on the legislation, the House Committee on Small Business in which I chair, hosted businesses from around the country to hear how this rule would be detrimental to them. Watch the full hearing below.
Holding China Accountable
On Friday, I was proud to vote for the COVID-19 Origin Act of 2023 holding China accountable for unleashing COVID on the world. Americans deserve to know the truth and this act requires the Biden Administration to declassify all information relating to potential links between the Wuhan Institute of Virology and the origin of COVID-19. I will continue to fight for transparency for the American people to ensure we hold Communist China accountable.
In Case You Missed It
This week in the Financial Services Committee I questioned Fed. Chairman Jerome Powell on how he plans to ensure the federal reserve will remain uninfluenced by partisan agendas and focus on tacking runaway inflation. Watch my questions here.
On Wednesday I joined the Morning News with Ernie Brown & Monty Cook on WBAP where we discussed the state of the economy. Listen here.
