One thing’s for certain, we cannot and will not let environmental disasters like these become our new normal.
John,
FIRST: Back in February, a Norfolk Southern train carrying hazardous chemicals derailed in Ohio.
THEN: A controlled burn of the said chemicals created highly toxic dioxins that were released into the atmosphere, contaminating the soil, air, and water around East Palestine.
NOW: The latest solution to deal with this mess is to… incinerate the chemically polluted soil?!
We cannot continue letting Norfolk Southern make risky decisions around this disaster — and our SEEC Members are working in Congress to hold them accountable.
John, we’re not the only ones raising eyebrows at this strategy. Experts have weighed in and called this plan nothing short of “horrifying.” Let’s be real: What’s the logic behind setting toxic chemicals aflame and releasing them back into the atmosphere?!
This decision defies logic, human decency, and science. The people of East Palestine are already scared, and the long-term health effects of this environmental crisis are still completely unknown. Planning on burning these chemicals not only won’t solve the problem, but it also continues to put people’s health at risk and their anxieties on high alert.
We cannot and will not let environmental disasters like these become our new normal, and we must take every precaution to handle this crisis with care. But Norfolk Southern isn’t interested in doing that.
Thanks to your help in 2022, SEEC PAC was able to re-elect over 95% of our pro-environment members to the U.S. House of Representatives — defying the odds on a night where Democrats lost seats. Now we are counting on you to help our SEEC members pass climate, clean energy and environmental justice policies in the 118th Congress while we continue fighting for a sustainable future.
