I spent formative years of my life on my grandparents’ rice farm in Fukushima, Japan. When I was eight years old, my mother made the courageous decision to escape her abusive marriage and bring me and my brothers to the United States to pursue a better life for us. When we arrived, my mother worked low wage jobs with no health benefits.

Sen. Mazie Hirono

Aloha John,

I want you to be the first to know: I’m officially running for re-election to continue fighting for our working families, our planet, and our future in the U.S. Senate.

In just a moment, I’m going to share my story and explain why your support today is so important. But first, will you become a Founding Donor to my re-election campaign and split a $10 donation between Cory Booker and me to protect our razor-thin Senate majority?

I spent formative years of my life on my grandparents’ rice farm in Fukushima, Japan. When I was eight years old, my mother made the courageous decision to escape her abusive marriage and bring me and my brothers to the United States to pursue a better life for us. When we arrived, my mother worked low wage jobs with no health benefits.

I worried that we would lose everything if my mother ever fell ill, even if just to stay home sick for a day. It wasn’t until she got a good paying union job that we experienced a level of security.

My mother’s perseverance inspired me to fight for dignity and justice for all people. As a student at the University of Hawaii, I joined fellow student activists to protest the Vietnam War — and that experience showed me that to create real change, ordinary people must have a seat at the table.

That’s what led me to public service, and eventually to the U.S. Senate. I fight every day for legislation that will lift children and families out of poverty, secure our free and fair elections, and defend reproductive rights — critical Democratic priorities that will deliver for the American people.

John, I’ve said for a long time: the battles we previously won, don’t stay won — eternal vigilance is required. I’m running for re-election because when the extreme, right-wing, ideologically driven Supreme Court supermajority overturned Roe v. Wade, they drove that lesson home.

Democrats have 23 Senate seats to defend in 2024, including mine. Whether it’s codifying abortion rights, staving off the worst effects of climate change, or ending the entirely preventable gun violence epidemic that is now the leading cause of death for American children, if we lose our Senate majority, these battles become harder than ever.

That’s why I need you with me in this fight, John. Will you split a donation of $10 or any amount between my campaign and Cory Booker’s? My work has always been made stronger by grassroots supporters like you and I’d be honored to have your support today.
