FL-27 Newsletter Vol. 118, Issue #10 Dear Friends/Amigos, Thank you for allowing me to bring you this brief weekly update. It is an honor to represent you in Congress. This week, the House of Representatives took action on protecting Americans' right to free speech, removing red tape for small businesses, and demanded transparency on the origins of COVID-19. I also took time to recognize and reflect on the power of President Reagan's "Evil Empires" speech, four decades after it was given. I also announced new legislation that will ensure our youth are able to receive accurate information on how pernicious socialism really is (more on that below). As always, I invite you to connect with me on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, to get the latest from Washington and from across our district. Sincerely/Atentamente, Maria Elvira Salazar U.S. Representative (FL-27) DECADES AFTER REAGAN'S 'EVIL EMPIRE' SPEECH, CONGRESS SAYS NO TO SOCIALISM! This week, I joined Rachel Campos-Duffy and my South Florida colleague, Rep. Carlos Giménez, on Fox & Friends at the Victims of Communism Museum to reflect on the 40th anniversary of President Reagan's "Evil Empire" speech. Last month, my resolution condemning the atrocities committed in the name of the socialist perversion passed the U.S. House of Representatives in a vote of 328-86. In doing so, we showed the world that the war on individual liberty will not be won here in the United States. Looking forward, I am excited to announce that I will be working to reintroduce my bill, the Crucial Communism Teaching (CCT) Act, this Congress. If enacted, it would make materials from the Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation available to teach high school students the evils of socialism and communism. MY TRIP TO THE U.S. SOUTHERN BORDER This week, I joined my colleagues on a trip to Eagle Pass, TX, to assess the current humanitarian and security crisis at our southern border. What I found was troubling and truly heartbreaking. Click here to see a summary of the cartel drones invading our airspace. Click here to see a summary of the trip and my visit to the Rio Grande. I will continue to ensure this topic remains front and center in Congress as the brave men and women of Border Patrol risk their lives for our safety and security.
