As you know, my wife, Carol, prepares a monthly prayer alert. I hope you will share Carol's thoughts with your friends and fellow worshipers. Thank you for taking an interest in her monthly devotion. --Gary
Washington is stuck in a dangerous self-imposed gridlock like I have never seen before. Voters across the country wait and wait for Congress to act on kitchen table issues that affect their daily lives -- ensuring continued economic and job growth, healthcare and immigration reform, for example. Instead, D.C. political elites are running headlong into an impeachment trial tunnel in which they seem totally removed from the very people they have been elected to serve.
Every week it seems there are more revelations that point to a concerted effort to delegitimize President Trump since before he was even elected. Then, upon his inauguration, the efforts went into high gear. Timelines of coordinated efforts to damage the president from both inside government and from the outside have been proven and are in the public domain. Regardless of one's partisan affiliation, such actions to undermine a duly-elected president are deeply troubling and should alarm every American.
Outright lies, dishonesty, mischaracterizations, false or incomplete submissions, lax court procedures and more laid the foundation for the years’ long effort to derail or undercut the new president. It is absolutely breathtaking the lengths to which some self-anointed power players took it upon themselves to take out a duly-elected president. And now, this week, the legislative allies of the Deep State had the gall to say that no president is above the law when it is they who have manipulated the levers of powers to attempt to overturn the last election.
In nine and a half months the American people will go to the polls. And yet, these same elites are eager to short circuit the upcoming election. They want to prevent the American people from being able to vote for the sitting president. And, if they fail, they have laid the groundwork for casting doubts on the validity of the election results should the president be reelected.
Did you see that lead House impeachment manager Adam Schiff shockingly said on Wednesday, "The president's misconduct cannot be decided at the ballot box, for we cannot be assured that the vote will be fairly won"? This feels like very dangerous territory in which a broad swath of powerful Washington elites want to preemptively cast doubts on an election.
Please pray for those who have been elected to serve and represent us in Washington. Prompt them to be very aware of the historical role they now play at a critical time in the nation's history. Pray that they would be wise with their words and choices when the nation is so on edge. Give them pause when they need to see the big picture impact of their actions.
Open the eyes of our leaders so that they may see the impact of their votes on everyday Americans. Ask God to temper words and ideas that appear to minimize or discount the role of America's voters in choosing their president. Pray that the Lord would guide the future of our country and that we would all seek common ground, prayerfully and in unison.
As the political season heats up, our elected officials will be making more frequent public appearances before voters. We have all witnessed political disagreements that grew overheated. And sometimes those with an ax to grind are able to get into events of a candidate with whom they are in total disagreement. In particular, law enforcement is strained when the president or vice president attend rallies of thousands or sporting events with tens of thousands in attendance.
Please pray for the safety of all candidates in this heated political environment. Ask God for wisdom for law enforcement officials at all levels to ensure the safety of candidates in a country that values free speech. Thank God for the opportunity to live in and vote in a country where we have a say in our leadership and avenues to express our opinions.
Thank you for your regular prayers for the United States in a time of unease and tension. Your prayers for Gary’s work and the many opportunities he has to impact public policy are appreciated.
