John, here’s something you may not know about me:
I’m a bit of a movie buff, and honestly, a huge fan of the Coen Brothers’
classic The Big Lebowski.
And despite what you may believe, it’s not because of The Dude’s
proclivity for White Russians. Or because I don’t roll on Shabbos.
I doubt there’s much I actually have in common with The Dude, or, uh, His
Dudeness, or uh, Duder, or El Duderino if you’re not into the whole
brevity thing…unless it’s having roughly as many nicknames from a certain
former disgraced occupant of the Oval Office.
This week was the 25th anniversary of The Big Lebowski. So I thought I’d
share just a few of the ways it comes up (alright fine, I bring it up) in
my day-to-day:
I love gifting The Big Lebowski to my staff on holidays.
I’ve got a license plate frame with Walter Sobchak’s immortal guidance: “I
don’t roll on Shabbos.”
I often note when a rug really ties the room together.
I even brought it up (again) during my recent interview with Pod Save
America.
And in my opinion, the line that most often comes up working in politics,
and was remarkably on point when Matt Gaetz was ripping into Kevin
McCarthy during the endless speakership votes:
“No, you’re not wrong. You’re just an a-hole.”
I hope you’re able to take a few hours to enjoy this classic and some
laughs along the way.
Eff it Dude, let’s go bowling.
— Adam
