I am proud to serve our district in Congress. Each day, I work to address your concerns and protect our liberties. From navigating federal casework to voicing a concern, my team and I are always here to help. For your convenience, my D.C. and each district office's contact information can be found in the closing of this newsletter. Please read below for some updates on my recent work representing you in Washington, D.C. and back home in TX-23. Hosted a Congressional Delegation at the Southern Border TX-23 spans over 800 miles of our southern border, which means my constituents are at the center of this illegal immigration crisis. To solve this problem in Congress, it is critical for my colleagues to see it firsthand. This week I hosted my 16th congressional delegation to the southern border where I led 5 members of Congress to see the consequences of open border policies. During the visit we held a roundtable discussion with farmers, ranchers, first responders, and local officials; visited high-speed pursuit routes with local law enforcement; and received a briefing at the Uvalde Border Patrol Station which houses unaccompanied migrant children. As I continue to meet with border communities in TX-23, I remain committed to providing our law enforcement and local officials with the tools and policy changes they need to keep our border secure. Introduced the END FENTANYL Act A lethal dose of fentanyl is smaller than the tip of a pencil. And now, it is pouring into our country in record amounts, making its way into our schools and communities. This is a national security crisis given that fentanyl is now a leading cause of death for young adults. That’s why I am proud to join my colleagues Congressman Michael Guest (R-MS-03) and Congressman David Trone (D-MD-06) in introducing the bipartisan Eradicating Narcotic Drugs and Formulating Effective New Tools to Address National Yearly Losses of Life (END FENTANYL) Act. This bill seeks to improve the detection of this illicit drug and put an end to the fentanyl crisis plaguing American communities. Questioned China’s Dangerous Agenda in Homeland Security Hearing This week I participated in the House Homeland Counterterrorism, Law Enforcement, and Intelligence subcommittee hearing to examine the threat posed by the Chinese Communist Party to the U.S. homeland. To protect Americans, it is critical that the U.S. partners with our allies abroad to counter China’s growing influence in our hemisphere and across the world. Watch my full line of questioning here or below. Visited With Veterans In San Antonio This week I visited Black Rifle Coffee Company with some fellow veterans. We discussed ways we can advocate for our current and former servicemembers and the difficulties facing the veteran community today. As a Navy veteran myself, I know first-hand the challenges servicemembers face as they transition back into civilian life. In Congress, I am committed to ensuring that these brave men and women have access to the resources and benefits they deserve. Attended the Border Patrol Freedom Fest in Concan Last weekend, I had the opportunity to attend the Border Patrol Freedom Fest in Concan. Every day, our men and women in green bravely put their lives on the line to protect our country and keep our communities safe. I am grateful for their service to TX-23 and the nation! Met With Leaders of the Texas Association of Community Health Centers In rural communities across TX-23, residents are in dire need of improving their access to quality healthcare. This week, I met with leaders of the Texas Association of Community Health Centers to discuss the important work they are doing to address health needs across our state. This non-profit organization serves as an important voice for the healthcare community in Texas. In Congress, I will continue to fight so that every Texan has access to the resources they need to stay safe and healthy. Sat Down With Aliviane, Inc. This week I also had the opportunity to meet with leaders from El Paso-based Aliviane, Inc. to discuss their efforts to combat substance abuse disorders in West Texas. This organization works tirelessly to provide prevention, intervention, treatment, and recovery services to those who are struggling with drug-related issues. I am thankful for the work they do to support and empower our communities to seek help when they need it. Spoke With Leaders of the San Antonio Professional Firefighters Association Firefighters are a godsend for our communities. This week I met with leaders of the San Antonio Professional Firefighters Association for an update on their work serving communities in Bexar County. We discussed their needs and ways I can continue to support them through my work in Congress. I am grateful for the work of our first responders who run towards danger to keep us safe. My team and I are always available to assist you. Please feel free to contact my office at any time.
