Last weekend we left the Public Interest Environmental Law Conference positively buzzing. The return of the conference after a three-year hiatus and the ability to be in community with so many of you gave the Breach team a giant boost of energy.

And now, we are back to work. It’s a good thing we’re so fired up because we’ve got a big fight on our hands. NW Natural is doubling down on its efforts to overturn Oregon’s first electrification ordinance to phase out fossil fuels in new homes in Eugene. Please make a donation now to help us take on their aggressive tactics and deep pockets. We need all hands on deck.

In just four weeks, NW Natural has spent nearly $1 million to fund Eugene Residents for Energy Choice, a front group that collected signatures for a ballot referendum to roll back the electrification policy. Aside from two separate donations of $50 or less, NW Natural is the campaign’s sole funder. We are a grassroots movement up against a massive fossil fuel corporation and we need your help to win this fight.

On Thursday the front group submitted the signatures, triggering a 15 day certification period with the Lane County Elections Division to determine whether the referendum will qualify for a public vote this November. NW Natural has effectively spent nearly $150 for every signature required to put this policy on the ballot. The election is in less than eight months and NW Natural is just getting started. It’s clear that they’re willing to spend whatever it takes to protect their profits and ensure the continued use of fossil fuels.
