John,
Two years ago this month, we passed the American Rescue Plan, our $1.9 trillion relief package to help defeat a deadly global pandemic and get Americans back to work and school.
As part of that ambitious plan, we expanded the Child Tax Credit, which cut child poverty in half.
Think about that: Two years ago, we made a policy choice that lifted children all over the country out of poverty. There’s really no clearer example of our government’s power to help people.
But to do the opposite? Well, that’s a choice too...
And that’s exactly the choice that the Republicans made. They chose to let the expanded Child Tax Credit expire — and millions of families suffered the consequences. Child poverty, hunger, and food insecurity skyrocketed immediately after this policy expired.
We need to reinstate the expanded Child Tax Credit, John, and I’m ready to take on that fight in the Senate. If you’re with me, I hope you’ll sign on to show your support:
After we passed the American Rescue Plan, Mitch McConnell bragged that “not a single member of my party voted for [it].”
Pretty strange coming from the “pro-family” party. Except completely on brand.
While the GOP’s obstruction is unlikely to end anytime soon, we can — and must — keep pushing for progress. You have my word that when I’m in the Senate, I will fight every day to finish the work we started by reinstating the Child Tax Credit and helping millions of families get the support they deserve.
Thank you for being a part of this fight.
