Gov. Justice signs largest tax cut in West Virginia history into law

Gov. Jim Justice signed HB 2526 ([link removed]) into law earlier the week. It's the largest tax cut in West Virginia history, returning over $750 million to hardworking West Virginians through income tax reductions.

“It’s not often that you have the largest tax cut in the history of West Virginia,” Gov. Justice said. “I thank Speaker Hanshaw, President Blair, our leadership teams, finance folks and all the people who pulled the rope. It’s taken two years to get here, but this is a monumental day for us all.

“The world is watching West Virginia. The world sees West Virginia in a different light today. We’re not the blunt end of a bad joke. We’re the diamond in the rough people missed. We’ve known for a long time how good we were. Today, we put our stake in the sand, inviting everyone to our state.”

The bill contains provisions for additional annual personal income tax rate cuts in future years beginning as early as 2025 to the extent that actual State revenue growth exceeds consumer inflation. These triggers put West Virginia on a pathway toward complete elimination of the personal income tax.

Gov. Justice provides update on train derailment in Summers County
[link removed]

Gov. Justice announced that a rockslide near the city of Sandstone caused a train derailment earlier this week in Summers County. All 109 train cars were empty. The derailment injured three crew members, caused parts of the train to catch fire, and sent one locomotive and one fuel tank into the New River.

The site of the accident is located just south of Sandstone inside the New River National Park and Preserve. CSX owns twelve feet from the middle of the track to either side and will be responsible for cleanup. The company is sending a spill response unit that will coordinate with the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection (WVDEP) on mitigation and remediation efforts.

Gov. Justice announces Our Next Energy (ONE) to build battery storage system manufacturing facility in Jackson County

Gov. Justice announced earlier this week that Our Next Energy ([link removed]) (ONE), a Michigan-based energy storage technology company, has entered into an agreement with the State of West Virginia to locate its Aries Grid battery storage system manufacturing facility in Ravenswood, at the Berkshire Hathaway Energy Renewables (BHE Renewables) microgrid business site.

“Today’s announcement is a proud day for all West Virginians,” Gov. Justice said. “We’re welcoming ONE to West Virginia with open arms, and we’re continuing to celebrate our ability to compete and attract world-class businesses to our great state.

"The Aries Grid battery storage system manufacturing facility enables hardworking West Virginians to continue their legacy producing America’s energy, and I couldn’t be more excited for ONE to build their new home in Almost Heaven, West Virginia."

Gov. Justice announces Delta Cooling Towers to expand operations in Barbour County; invest $6.7 million

Gov. Justice announced earlier this week that Delta Cooling Towers (Delta), a company that offers precision climate control solutions, including cooling towers and HVAC equipment, will create 30 new jobs over 5 years and retain 26 jobs in Barbour County.

“I am very excited to make this announcement today,” Gov. Justice said. “The addition of these jobs for Barbour County is wonderful news, and I know that Delta Cooling Towers has and will continue to thrive in West Virginia with their second facility.

“I always want to make sure we recognize all businesses that are growing, expanding, or coming to West Virginia. So, thank you to Delta Cooling Towers because we're proud of what you're doing, and welcome to Almost Heaven.”

HHOMA seeks vendors and performers for annual Juneteenth Celebration
The Herbert Henderson Office of Minority Affairs (HHOMA) is seeking vendors, performers, performance groups, and artists for its annual Juneteenth Celebration. The Juneteenth Celebration is scheduled for Saturday, June 17, from 5-9 p.m. at the State Capitol Complex.

HHOMA is hosting the Juneteenth Celebration in partnership with FestivALL Charleston. It will be held at the State Capitol Complex complete with games, prizes, crafts, vendors, food, and more. This event is free of charge and open to the public.
