Learn more about what my office has been up to this week Dear john, On Monday, I was proud to kick off the week by convening a Department of Justice grants webinar with local government leaders and experts from DOJ to learn more about funding opportunities for our city and county governments. Notably, I was pleased to highlight opportunities for state crisis intervention programs made possible by the historic “Bipartisan Safer Communities Act,” the most substantive gun violence prevention package passed in almost 30 years. I’m so proud that aspects of my “Federal Extreme Risk Protection Order Act” were included in the package which secured $750 million in crisis prevention funding over five years. I want to thank the over 6,000 neighbors and community members who joined my office to learn more from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services about the Medicare Advantage open enrollment period, which runs through March 31st. If you require assistance with a Medicare issue or any other federal agency, please do not hesitate to contact my Duluth district office-my casework team is here to help you! You can call (470) 773-6330 or visit mcbath.house.gov/help. On Thursday, I was proud to join my colleagues Reps. Angie Craig and Dan Kildee to reintroduce our Affordable Insulin Now Act. We have made incredible progress in our fight to lower the price of this lifesaving drug, but we must continue our efforts until insulin is affordable and accessible to every single person in America. I will continue to champion this legislation until it becomes law. Friday afternoon, I joined the White House for a press call to mark the two-year anniversary of the American Rescue Plan. Together with Gene Sperling, Senior Advisor to President Biden; Mayor Van Johnson of Savannah, GA; and Commissioner Larry Johnson of DeKalb County, we highlighted the critical impact this legislation had to spearhead the strongest jobs recovery in history and the fastest economic recovery in the world. I am thrilled to announce the kickoff of my 2023 Congressional Art Competition! Designed for high school students in Georgia's Seventh Congressional District, this competition is an opportunity to recognize and encourage the artistic talents of students across our country. All submissions must be delivered in-person or by mail to my Duluth district office by no later than 5 pm on Friday, April 24th.
