March 10, 2023
Dear Washingtonians,
Did you hear the news? Starting this month, we are expanding hours at our recreation centers! Starting, Monday, March 27, we will expand hours at eight high-demand rec centers; then, in April, we will expand hours at 37 additional rec centers. Weekday hours will expand from eight hours to 15 hours and Saturday hours will double from four hours to eight hours. The new weekday hours will be 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and the new Saturday hours will be 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
By staying open longer, we can offer more programming and recreation opportunities to residents of all ages and we can do more to keep young people engaged in safe and fun activities after school and on the weekend.
The first eight rec centers to launch expanded hours on Monday, March 27 include:
- Columbia Heights Community Center
- Emery Heights Community Center
- Turkey Thicket Recreation Center
- Edgewood Recreation Center
- Deanwood Community Center
- Kenilworth Recreation Center
- Rosedale Recreation Center
- Barry Farm Recreation Center
We also announced this week that for the first time, we will have a lottery system for DPR summer camp registration. The lottery system will make the process of registering for summer camp more equitable and less frantic.

Sincerely,
Longer hours and more summer camp opportunities means more jobs at DPR. Spread the word that DPR is hiring! Learn more at earnwithdpr.com.
