John,
Today is Abortion Provider Appreciation Day — a day to celebrate and honor the necessary and life-saving work of abortion care providers everywhere.
We show our appreciation for abortion care providers on this day because 23 years ago Dr. David Gunn, an abortion care provider, was murdered outside his clinic by a white supremacist and anti-abortion extremist.
Dr. Gunn is believed to be one of the first abortion care providers murdered for their work, but we know attacks on both care providers and abortion access — as well as racially-motivated attacks — have only increased since his death in 1996.
Addressing the link between white supremacy, legislative attacks on reproductive healthcare, and violence towards care providers can be uncomfortable, but that’s exactly why we need Cori’s leadership — in Congress, in our community, and on the ground. Will you make a contribution to support Cori’s efforts to defend abortion access today?
As attacks on abortion rights began escalating last year, Cori began sharing her own abortion story, protesting with the community, and leading the fight to pass urgent reproductive health protections, including the introduction of a bill to protect access for medication abortion.
Cori was arrested last summer while protesting for abortion rights at the Supreme Court — she knows even if it means putting our bodies on the line, we must raise up our voices in this pivotal moment to make our demands clear: Abortion care is health care and health care is a human right.
Thanks for your support, John — and remember to thank an abortion care provider today.
